Deposit saves lives - collection campaign in canteen Reichenhainer Straße
UNICEF and Student Service Organisation collect beverage deposits for water projects in developing countries in the canteen on the Chemnitz campus.
For us it is a daily matter of course: When we are thirsty, we can simply turn on the tap. In contrast, around 844 million people on earth - especially the poorest families - have no access to a basic supply of drinking water. Every day, 1,300 children under the age of five die from diarrheal diseases because they lack clean drinking water and sanitation. Helping is easy - and now even easier with our pledge campaign.
UNICEF has already set up donation bins for returnable bottles at various locations in Chemnitz, for example at various supermarkets in the city. Today, another container has been added in the canteen of the Chemnitz-Zwickau Student Union on the Reichenhainer Straße campus. Mensa guests can deposit their empty deposit bottles in the container. Volunteers of the UNICEF university group regularly exchange the deposit and transfer it as a donation, for example for water projects. Projects in Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Zambia, Somalia and South Sudan are supported.
With just 50 cents, UNICEF can provide enough water purification tablets for 600 liters of water. Every contribution is important and can save lives. Participate diligently and drop your deposit in the collection garbage can next to the tablet return.
