Heating cost subsidy for BAföG recipients

All students who have received BAföG benefits for at least one month in the period from October 2021 to March 2022 and who lived outside their parents' home will receive a one-time heating allowance of a flat rate of 230 euros.

The payment date for the heating allowance in Saxony has been set for Friday, October 7, 2022.

An application does not have to be submitted. The subsidy is paid automatically to the own account for all entitled persons. Moreover, the subsidy is not counted as income towards BAföG.

However, it is important that one has not received any housing allowance in the period from October 2021 to March 2022 and was also not included in a corresponding housing allowance notice as a member of a household community. The heating allowance will then already be granted automatically via the housing allowance. Anyone who is already considered for the subsidy via the housing allowance cannot receive the subsidy again as a BAföG recipient. In total, the subsidy is only available once.
