On Friday, 8 November 2024, numerous students joined us and those responsible for the “Living Neighbourhood” project of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 to plant 21 apple trees in the meadows of our halls of residence. We would like to thank all those involved for their great support, who diligently prepared the planting holes with mouse cages, hammered in stakes, shoveled soil, attached protective mats to the trunks and watered the trees well. Thanks to this help, the 21 apple trees were planted in less than 2 hours.

In our Campulino daycare center, too, many little furry helpers were at work and planted their own apple tree of the “Princess Luise” variety, which they had chosen themselves beforehand. The children could hardly wait to shovel shovel after shovel of soil into the planting hole and to trample it down to give the tree a good hold in the ground. Finally, a stake had to be installed to support the tree and a mat to protect it from the sun. Yvette Glaß, specialist planner of the “Living Neighborhood” project, explained all the steps in detail to the little ones.

Afterwards, our canteen team provided everyone involved with hot drinks, delicious apple and pumpkin soup and rice pudding with apple sauce.
