Price adjustments and other measures from 2025
From January 1, 2025, there will be some necessary price adjustments in the Studentenwerk Chemnitz-Zwickau, which were decided at the meeting of the Administrative Board on December 17, 2024. These changes affect several areas:
- Price increases gradually from 01.01.2025:
Meal prices in the canteens and cafeterias will rise by an average of 14% for staff and guests. Meal prices at the Campulino daycare center and for students at the Glauchau site will be increased by 7%. - Reduced opening hours from 01.01.2025:
In order to save on staff costs, the opening hours of the cafeterias will be reduced by the less frequented morning times. This does not apply to cafete55 in Chemnitz. The new opening hours are:- Cafeterias StraNa in Chemnitz and Ring and Scheffelberg in Zwickau:
Monday to Friday from 10:45 to 13:45 - Mensa & Cafeteria Glauchau:
Monday to Friday from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm
- Cafeterias StraNa in Chemnitz and Ring and Scheffelberg in Zwickau:
- Increase in the flat-rate operating costs from 01.04.2025:
The flat-rate operating costs in the halls of residence will increase by €25 per bed per month. - Adjustment of the semester fee in winter semester 2025/2026:
The university catering part of the semester fee will be increased by € 11 in the winter semester 2025/2026 to make up for the shortfall in the financial year 2025.
Despite internal cost-cutting measures and the provision for non-essential renovation and maintenance measures, these price adjustments are unfortunately unavoidable. The reasons for this are the rising personnel costs due to wage increases, the continuing high cost of goods and the massive price increases in the insurance and energy sectors, particularly for district heating. The declining number of students at Chemnitz University of Technology and the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences in Zwickau, which has been falling for years, is also leading to declining contribution income. Due to the difficulties in forming a government in the Free State of Saxony, there is still no draft budget for the 2025/2026 double budget. At present, it cannot be assumed that the additional funding requirements can be covered by state funds.
We are aware that the student budget is very limited. We have therefore decided to increase the university catering portion of the solidarity semester contribution in order to keep student meal prices stable. Our aim is to ensure that the daily hot meal remains affordable for all students.
We regret these necessary steps and ask for your understanding.
